Ford Transit Custom MK1 2012-2018 Van Accessories & Parts

Designed to battle it out in the competitive medium van class against the long- standing rivals such as the Volkswagen Transporter and the Mercedes Vito, the Transit Custom proved to be a major success, offering a smart modern and professional choice from a brand that had stood the test of time with the original Transit heritage. In a modern guise, the Transit Custom was split from its larger variant, the normal Ford Transit, to give a more accessible and every-day van, but coupled with great capabilities, if it were too small then it naturally wouldn’t be able to carry what the customer needed.

How well is the MK1 Transit Custom equipped?

The Transit Custom is very different to the Transit that came before it, and takes lots of styling features from the modern Ford design at that time, including passenger cars like the Fiesta and Focus, keeping the design on trend. Most vans came from the factory with 3 seats in the front, perfect for carrying a couple of passengers whilst the rear is stocked full of equipment, being able to fold down the middle seat to create a platform to work a laptop from. Lots of leg and head room keeps things comfortable for taller people too.

Lots of storage areas, including cup holders allow for easy use in day-to-day situations, and the glovebox is design to be able to hold paperwork like A4 folders, perfect for those that intended to use these as a working van.

The rear doors can open outwards to 180 degrees to allow for easy loading of bulky items, and can even fit items like euro pallets, a very good selling point for those that may need to from time to time. The Ford Transit Custom is the only short wheelbase medium range van classic that can transport up to three euro pallets (up to 1 metre load) combined with a payload of 883 kilos, it’s a pretty unstoppable force. With different variants depending on what you need, double cab options will give you flexibility to more carry people, the most popular will be the standard format.

How well does the MK1 Transit Custom drive?

Most vans are bigger and therefore bulkier, which can make manoeuvring and parking a bit more a headache especially in urban areas. The Transit Custom is more compact, the smaller size gives you the ability to fit into the smaller parking space in town centres, matched with a lighter steering action to provide a driving experience much more like driving a regular car, this is confidence boosting for those who might not drive commercial vehicles regularly.

To say that the Transit Custom is widely regarded as a great compromise between the smaller courier vans that likely won’t carry enough for builders and campers alike, and the bigger vans that will come with the drawbacks of long vehicles. Equipped with sliding doors and wide loading access, there isn’t much else you would need from a van that a Custom won’t give.
